Local area information

Plenty to see and do, whatever the weather

Field House Cottage self-catering Peak District accommodation is situated next to Hen Cloud and The Roaches, between the bustling market town of Leek in Staffordshire and Buxton, the Derbyshire spa town.

The Roaches

The Roaches form the south-western tip of the Pennines. This dramatic rocky ridge offers some of the best gritstone climbing in the UK and walkers and fell/trail runners can enjoy great routes across the area direct from the cottage including the path across The Roaches to the legendary Lud's Church, a deep and mysterious chasm. The stunning scenery is truly inspiring - the views from Hen Cloud, The Roaches and nearby Ramshaw Rocks are spectacular, particularly at sunrise and sunset.

Activites and attractions

There are lots of outdoor activities for you and your family and friends to experience during your stay in the Peak District National Park including abseiling, caving, climbing, cycling, hiking, horse riding and fell/trail running.

Down the road in Upper Hulme, you can find Peak Climbing School for rock climbing courses and coaching.

For watersports, Tittesworth Water and Rudyard Lake are just a few miles away and also offer great birdwatching as does nearby Coombes Valley RSPB nature reserve. And just a short drive away is Peak Wildlife Park with its walk throughs with lemurs, wallabies, penguins and other animals.

Leek (4 miles away) and Buxton (10 miles) have many attractions and a wide range of shops, markets, cafes, pubs, restaurants and other amenities. And the towns of Ashbourne and Bakewell are both about 30 minutes by car.

A short walk from the cottage is The Roaches Tea Rooms and the village pub, Ye Olde Rock Inn. There are also various country pubs in nearby villages including The Three Horseshoes in Blackshaw Moor and The Lazy Trout in Meerbrook.

Whatever the weather, there's plenty to see and do in the area. Nearby attractions include:
